Margate and Beyond Van Morey

One Sunday recently we decided to go for a stroll along Nierinna Creek at Margate. The path winds its way behind lots of hobby farms along the creek. It was a lovely rural walk.

We then jumped in the vehicle and hit the Snug reserve road. It was a 4WD track and as it was Sunday, it was quite busy with people in their 4WDs.  They looked rather startled to come roaring around a bend to see us with our tripods and cameras.

Pandanus in flower. This was the first time I have ever seen them flowering. I was thrilled to bits to see them everywhere on the mountain.

Glimpses of Government House

Recently I was lucky to visit Tasmania's government house. The home of our governor and the Queen's residence when she is visiting Tasmania. It was built in 1857.

Part of a sculpture by the late Stephen Walker

This staircase built in front of the window was so that the royals could make a discrete exit from a function if things were getting a bit boring. It takes them to their private quarters.

The gorgeous views of the Derwent River.
and the Tasman Bridge.

The 35 acres at Government house has many buildings for the caretaker and gardening staff to live and work in. It's like a small village.

It was a magnificent few hours and in my next post I will feature the gardens.
